Re-Creating Art

Virgin and Child after Von Carolsfield
I recently exhibited this graphite drawing re-creation of "Virgin and Child" by Von Carolsfeld in a Christmas Art exhibition. I was interested in the design and simple style of the original artwork. I also wanted to try and re-create the ambiance of this 1850's religious painting, more so than to produce a replica.

This is not the first such re-creation I have done. Co-incidentally, I also did a little recreation from DaVinci's The Virgin and Child with St Anne and St John the Baptist. I think I'm just attracted to "old world" mother and child subjects. I knew very little about the original artist when I started this work, but I now know he was a German painter, renowned for his biblical illustrations.

Recreating art works can be an interesting way of finding out about past artists as well as pushing your own styles and techniques in different directions.

Featured Gadget: BBC News With Images

So far as I can tell this is the only BBC news iGoogle gadget with images and choice of news section. I've chosen to add BBC Technology news below. I've also placed a BBC Arts and Culture news version in the sidebar. Basically you choose the news content category to fit your personalized page, blog/websites topic area e.g. If you have a interest in/blog about health you might add a health news version of the gadget.

To add to your blog:

Method 1: Go to Dashboard>Edit Layout>Add a Gadget>Add your Own (delete the "http://" prompt) then copy and paste in the gadget url found in the BBC News You Choose with Photos listing. You will then be able set up you preferences.

Method 2: Go to the Google directory listing, set up your preferences then copy the code for adding to a website. Go to Blogger Dashboard>Edit Layout>Edit HTML/Javascript, then paste the code into the content box and save.

I've noticed when adding the gadget using method 1, the blogger preview won't show you the news content category you've choosen, only the gadget's default. This is a blogger issue with the preview only, your choice will still work.
